The ways that people choose to cope with unfortunate situations are truly unfortunate in themselves. It's completely logical to have emotional understanding for the choice but it really doesn't make sense how people try to solve problems with something that will only become another problem. And in the holidays, people somehow trick themselves into thinking that consequences do not apply, almost completely similar to the concept of procrastination. 'I'll do it later, I have time' or 'I'll worry about it later' are common phrases that stand for the common demise of people everywhere. But these are just some of the mistaken risks that people are willing to take for temporary satisfaction.

Everybody knows that eating all these foods are bad for you, obviously they're going to affect you. But after reading this article it might cause me to not eat sweets for like a day but honestly who cares!? I still think that everyone should just enjoy them selfs! Eat what ever you want go crazy, you should reward yourself for working so hard all year. So what if the enjoyment oz temporary? What if you die tomorrow? You're gonna wish you are that pie. I think everyone shouldn't stop eating during holidays but they need to be mindful of the consequences and try to remain exercising and eating healthy foods too. I can't wait for Christmas dinner! yummy yummy yummy! :)

I never understood how eating comforts people. Yes the good tastes good, but I don't see how it's comforting. Binge eating is not the answer to problems, but then again who am I to tell somebody how to cope with their problems? I believe people should do what they want, but they will have to live with the consequences. Temporary satisfaction can cause permanent problems, but everybody has to die some day. So I say live your life how you want because you only have one, but make choices so that you can live long and happy.

I don't see how people can just eat a lot around the Holidays when most of the food that is consumed is not that healthy for you. Some people binge eat just to eat their pain away just like teens smoke to smoke their pain away. I understand that people cope in many ways but these ways are unhealthy for your body and can cause many harm.

so really everyone has there own way of dealing with problems. so what people want to throw down around the holidays. I say do whatever you want. as long as you aren't harming anyone else. It's your body. Y.O.L.O

HAHA "One bite can lead to a large weight gain over the holidays." I agree with that statement a lot. But I never understood the whole binge eating thing around the holidays because I know a large amount of people that do this, I guess I never really understood it because in my household my mom cooks everyday and we have those types of holidays meals just not as heavy and fulfilling almost every other Sunday (i don't know why) so when holidays meals come around its basically like "oh okay it's like another Sunday dinner just with a little more added on to it" it's not as exciting as people make it out to be well at least not in my opinion... and Binge eating is NEVER okay

Binge eating is not so bad to me. That might just be because I love food and I eat a lot when I get upset, but i believe its a better way to cope with situations rather than something harmful. But at the same time when you Binge eat you gain some pounds and then you have another problem on your hands right? And how are you going to cope with that problem keep eating?

It comes as no surprise to me that food that is served closer to the holidays causes binge eating. The producers of these holiday goods know exactly what they're doing. During the winter holidays people are usually surrounded by friends and family who will more than likely indulge in the same treats . I think its so much easier to fall to victim to compulsive eating when you're not the only one doing so. As for whether or not it is a cause for worry, i don't people should have to constantly feel the burden of monitoring what they eat .

Wow, people really do that? I've always been zealous for food but binging during the holidays? With all that pecan pie and cake and turkey and heart-attacks-on-plates, how can one continue to eat nonstop and not feel any guilt or remorse for their little stomachs?! The holidays is a time for celebration and to eat and drink at one's whim, but I thought it was a notorious fact to everyone that too much of everything is unhealthy. Is this why one of the most common causes of death in America is obesity?

As someone who personally struggles with not overindulging during the holidays, I never considered what may happen to those who truly have eating disorders, as it just strengthens their compulsiveness to eat. During the holidays, it is common to have foods that you normally may not have available, such as dishes that only certain family members know how to make and is a "holiday special". This can cause anyone to think "I have to eat this now because there may not be leftovers and I may not have it again for a long time". For those with a true eating disorder, I am sure this can reek havoc on their weight and health.

With America being the second most obese country in the world, somehow binge eating during the holidays is still culturally and socially accepted. I know this makes me a hypocrite, but i eat like a pig every chance i get... no matter the occasion. I understand that just because my body isn't showing signs of excessive eating, it will eventually catch up to me in the long run. We decide whether binge eating is right or wrong based upon the physical shape an individual is in. Whether you're fat, skinny, obese, or anorexic, binge eating should be avoided.

The point of holidays is to hang out with your family, whether it be your nuclear family or extended family. During this time people overestimate the amount of food that they need to make. They make too much because they don't want to run out. Due to this, people just eat more than they should because there is a surplus of food that hasn't been consumed yet. This is what leads to what is known as binge eating. Nowadays barely anyone sits at the dinner table with their family to eat; this only occurs, for the most part, during special occasions like holidays. People usually eat when they feel hungry or have a craving for a specific food. Whether then having specified times that they eat as a family they just go to the fridge throughout the day and grab whatever seems appealing to them. Families don't normally eat together, so when this does occur, this is just an addition to the meals that we normally eat. Although people do binge eat throughout the year, binge eating just intensifies throughout the holidays. Binge eating is bad, but that still doesn't stop people from consuming large portions of food. At the end of the day it is all up to the individuals to make their own decisions.

I understand the view point of the article in saying that most people binge eat during the holidays. However I don't feel that the reason that we binge is because of someone in our family say " oh take a bite it won't hurt you" however it is because you are talking to your family not paying attention to what you eat. As we have read that if you don't remember that you ate you will keep eating this can be replicated during the holiday season when you talk and not focusing on your food.

We all binge every once in a while, but for those who have a serious problem, I do feel bad for them. Perhaps the holidays are an excuse for them to binge more, but can't we all agree that the holidays are an excuse for everyone? All year, we wait for this time of year where we can eat pie, turkey, stuffing, and all. It's almost as if over-eating during this time of year is expected.

Is it possible that there is an decrease in leptin and an increase ghrelin in some people during the holidays. Somebody should do a study on this to see if there is an increase in these "I'm hungry" hormone and a decrease in this protein. It would make sense if this was why people are more prone to binge eating over the holidays. With all the food surrounding us and people always offering us to eat food our brain could be telling us "you are hungry" by increasing ghrelin when we are not. The after effects of this would be us gaining all that weight as metabolism decreases quickly. I also wonder if it is specific foods that could also constitute to the binge eating. I mean we do have a taste receptor for chicken (umami) and the holidays are especially famous for chicken. Certain foodsa and ingredients may trigger people to binge eat also. Lastly due to the social media bombarding people with the image of looking super thin the holidays are the times when you see an obese Santa with an obese Mrs. Claus. We are less bombarded by images of the Victoria's Secret model, so of course people would binge eat and not focus so much on their body image.

The holidays and the problems of the life are going side by side. The holidays are always relished and welcomed by the young and even old men. However, this particular problem was hidden by the holidays.

Great post! - That is exciting post and thank you for sharing. There are things here that I didn't think some time as of late. Because of cool such a position, to the point that is to a great degree carefully taken, we will talk a huge amount of colleagues about it. You can use this for any kind of academic writing work.
