Is the National Football League a microcosm for society's new attitude toward same-sex marriage?

I think that the boy really shouldn't have gotten kicked off the team, regardless of what the coach thought of it. Everyone should be able to express the affection to one another, gay or straight. Maybe next time he shouldn't do it in front of everyone if trying not to get judged by others about what he did.

well I play football and i never been in a situation where that occured where someone expressed what they felt about gays .But i agree he shouldnt have got kicked off just because he wants to express and share with one another what he thinks.Think everyone should have an opinion.

Football and gay rights usually dont come up in the same conversation but if a person loves playing football and they just happen to be gay they should still be able to play football theres not a single reason for him to get kicked off the team.

At first glance, football seems like a weird place to have a gay rights stance, but the topic of gay rights is so prevalent that important figures in every field comment on it. That's cool, but that makes me wonder do people pretend to side with gays out of fear of backlash or out of true support.

OK, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but tell us what you mean. Who is saying something that isn't "true?" Do you disagree with the legality of same sex marriage or that Americans' opinions on the issue are changing?

Well I think that every one has there own opinion towards a topic. But even in this situation I think that you still should have a say about anything gay or straight being. But I don't think the player should have been kicked off the team for an opinion. That's my thought.

Everybody has the right to do what they want and should not be penalized for his sexual orientation.

The taboo topic of homosexuality is definitely becoming more viral than ever this time around. My family's background traces effortlessly back to Nigeria, where there is no exact word for gay in our language (Igbo, not "Nigerian"). We are also very religious, so that would further bolster our disdain towards same-sex marriage in general. In America, though, I actually wonder why it's an issue. America in my eyes is the land of the free and the home of the brave: we do whatever we want, whenever we want, and we have no tradition/no culture to our own. Heck, America isn't even our own. I don't see why different preferences would get someone kicked off of their heart's desires...in AMERICA! We're free, we're brave, we can do whatever we want. Or can't we? Are we hypocrites?

In the similar manner an opinion was expressed in the article, I serve to say that I do not support gay marriage, but I am not against it either. In Christianity it is an obvious sin, but the Bible also preaches against discrimination and treating others differently than how you would want to be treated, elementary views and concepts. So while it is not my personal belief, I have been brought up to understand others and not necessarily sympathize but to accept regardless the circumstance.

I don't believe he should've been kicked off the team. By being on the team he already proved to the organization that he had the skills and work ethic to be on the team, regardless of his sexual orientation. To take remove him off the team because he's gay is wrong. Even though I am not a supporter of gay, I'm not anti-gay either. I believe that if you have proven yourself already then you shouldn't be penalized for prejudice beliefs.

He should not have gotten kicked off the team because they are gay, because if they were on a team that supported gay people and found a player being straight offensive they would not find it right to get kicked of the team. I also agree with Julian when he described how his skill and what he can bring to the team is more important.

I feel that a football player who has made it to the NFL has accomplished a lot, whether he's straight, gay, or chooses not to say. I also believe that an NFL player, just like anyone else, should have freedom to say what he thinks on a particular topic within reason. I can understand, although I do not agree with, the fact that people are going to judge him and what he says based on their personal opinions. It is what people do. However, I find it wrong that it was brought to the point where he was pushed away from his team and left in a rough patch without anyone bringing him in to their team.

Like I stated before its not a surprise to me that he was kicked off the team. America has not completely accepted same sex marriage and it will take a long time for it t o happen. I mean just look at how long it took for people to be comfortable with interracial marriages, but people in interracial marriages are to this day negatively judged . Same sex marriage will not be any different. People focus on America the home of the free and brave and forget that America is founded upon puritan beliefs which is "what I say is free and what I say is brave".

This article parallels to the other article that talks about sports and homosexuality. Leave the kid alone. So he kissed his boyfriend, coach; you want to kick him off the team for that? It's one thing if he can't play football, it's another if you just disagree with his sexual orientation. You don't like who he's kissing? Look away. You shouldn't be staring the kid down anyway, whether he was hugged up on a guy or a girl. Let's face it, coach. The world is changing, and homosexuality is becoming more and more accepted in today's culture, and personally, I think it's great. Should't people live life being happy? If playing foot ball makes this young man happy, or if being with someone of the same sex makes him happy, then let him be happy, and leave his place on the team out of it.

How many people do you hear say they want to be a football player for the NFL? A lot? Well in order to accomplish this amazing feat, you need to have a set of skills that are unlike no other. You shouldn't judge an individual by their sexual orientation, ethnicity, or gender, but rather by their accomplishments in their life. Everyone has their own way of life; we don't have to accept it, but we should at least respect it.
