I think it must be so hard to be gay or to be different in general. I admire the fact that Jason actually created the courage to be open with his sexuality and it's great that he lives a much happy life. I also wonder what kind of reactions he got from this team mates or the media, but its really good that he as his family to turn to for support. Even though I 100% respect gays, I can't lie and say its okay, I completely disagree with it, but I will NOT judge you or treat you differently for it. Like I always wonder what's going through their minds.

“‘I've known you were gay for years,’ she said.” I don’t know why, but I find it funny that his Aunt knew (or at least claimed to have known) that he is gay before he did. I admire the courage Jason had to come out with his sexuality. He is going to face a lot of more difficulties in the future with his sexuality; however, he has his family continual support.

I think that Jason's story directly supports the idea that people aren't born gay, and that they are conditioned that way. Like he said, "Imagine you're in an oven, baking...I should know-I baked for 33 years." Personally, I don't believe in the idea of homosexuality, but I was taught to accept everybody equally, despite their beliefs. What someone else and I would choose to accept may be completely unlike each other, but I have no clue what you feel, and neither does anyone else. So who would I be to give judgement for a situation that I am not and have never been in? Yet another situation where outsiders shouldn't fret about other people when for one: their very own lives aren't in check, and two, they haven't the least understanding about their circumstances.

I personally do not support gays, but I will not judge anyone for being so. I know gays have it hard now, so I commend Jason Collins for coming out and being open. I know for sure that there are more gays in professional sports and Jason Collins took a big first step for all of them. Although I do not support his sexual orientation, I respect him for being brave enough to come forward.

I personally think that it was a good decision to open up and admit that he is gay before rumors get around. I don't really support gays but I have family and friends thay are gay and I try to fully support them because I love them and support them at anything that they want to do. It is ok to admit who you are and be acceptable for who you are. For instance, I am a crazy weirdo and I tend to say stupid stuff a lot and do stupid stuff a lot and don't let anyone bring me down. I also think that his future and past teammates will not care do to the fact that we grew up in a generation that says thay it is ok to be who you are and stand out from the crowd.

He had alot of courage coming forth with his gayness. Most people wouldn't tell a soul. One question I would have is just, why? Whats the one thing that puts you past the breaking on being gay or straight. I mean you just don't wake up one day and decide to be gay. I just want to know what made him want be gay

This is a strong and brave guy. He knew there was a difference in him and he knew people were not ready to know about it, he came out at a good time because if he wouldve came out ealier it couldve messed with his career. He did what was right for him and i'm glad that his family accepts him for who he is. Thats whats most important.

I don't feel like anyone should discriminate whether its ethnicity, sex, or religion. I think that since he came out about his sexual orientation more athletes will come out. I think this will also strengthen the stance of minorities in general. Therefore allowing the united states of america to become more united

Many people don't come out as being gay due to the fact that they don't feel like they will be accepted. We live in a judgmental society. Him coming out is rather shocking to me due to the fact that this could hurt his career. Rather than people liking him as an outstanding athlete they know him as the "gay NBA player." People do discriminate; they aren't very accepting. People say Jason should be commended. Why is that though? Why should he be commended for being himself? Why can't they tell a soul who they truly are? Are they afraid of losing the ones they love?

Like many posts that I've glanced at above, I, too, appreciate and admire the courage of Jason Collins. In our time, being homosexual is becoming more and more well known. This isn't because there are more homosexuals, but because people are more accepting of it. Truth is, being gay doesn't change anything. If you like it, continue on, and if you don't, move along. If your good at a sport, then cheers to you. Who cares if you prefer a same gender partner? If you're a true fan of the game, forget about sexual orientation, and tell him go score some points. Am I wrong?

In this society being a homosexual is more accepted than in other societies. Even though more people are accepting the amount of people that judge or dislike homosexuals outnumbers those that are alright with homosexuality.Coming out as a homosexual NBA player will make life more difficult for him. The textbook even talks about how homosexuals are rejected and shunned due to their sexual orientation. It will take a long a long time for people to not care about sexual orientation, but currently people do care. Coming out as an openly gay man will make his life much harder.

It is very mandatory and considered opinion of the citizens for the acquisition of knowledge and information. It is required for the members of the academics to be aware of the different theories and concepts.
